Delgrosso White Family

This blog is a way for the Delgrosso and White families and friends to stay in touch, post pictures and just pretend that we aren't all scattered to the ends of the earth.

Yay! I finished a project--no, Jerilynn, not your sweater. But check this out: I knitted the sweater, but bought the little jumper underneath for Kim (Ehrhardt) Gordon's new daughter, Lauren. I wish the color were a little more true, because the sweater is a beautiful cherry red color, not pink at all. Now, after I run this to the post office, I can work more on Jerilynn's sweater...and mine...and Norman's hockey socks...and his mom's scarf...and...oh, clean the house!

Almost made it

Well, Dad and I made it to California early this morning (Thursday) and we decided to crash at Auntie Dianne's and Uncle Paul's before we tackled the project of haulin my stuff up to school. So I've almost made it to school for my 2nd year. We left Monday night and drove all night and most of Tuesday before stopping in North Platte Nebraska (I think it's North, N-something Platte) for the night. After a good nights rest, free breakfast at 8, we decided to chill out to miss the morning traffic, so we watched a movie on tv before heading out around 10:30 on Wednesday. We then drove straight through to Sacramento then on down to Dianne & Pauls (from my memory no less, lol) where we kinda surprised Auntie Dianne. Dad spent most of the afternoon napping (he drove most of this morning) and I think we'll be ready to start hauling my things up to my dorm room tomorrow.

I just wanted to give you all an update & also to ask what Thanksgiving plans are this year, though I am hoping to get in touch with the Sandy and Don to see what they'll be doing since I didn't get a chance to see them last year.

Wish me luck this year!

Back to School Time

So, Jerilynn starts back to school next week. She and Norman were to leave last night after he got home from a hockey game...they're still here! She drove to the store and the car wouldn't start when she came back out. Evidently it has a sensor going bad. It's in the shop today. It should be done this afternoon and they can start out this evening instead. She doesn't start school until next Tuesday, but she DOES need to get Norman to the airport in SF by Saturday morning, and she was hoping that she could move her stuff into her new room on Friday! (When Dad could help her schlep all that stuff up to the 4th floor in a building that doesn't have elevators!) Oh well, that gave me time enough to make gluten this morning, and I have everything cut up for "chicken" pot pie for an early supper before they leave. If they had left yesterday they wouldn't have had any kind of meal because I worked for 12 1/2 hours! ...Besides, I keep thinking of all those people that get off track for some strange reason and then find out that they would have been in some kind of disaster if they had done what they had originally planned....

New York Trip

OKay, I think I got the pictures downloaded, so here are some pics from the trip: This first one shows exactly what everyone did once we got to the hotel room: veg out in front of the TV (Jerilynn was in the bedroom watching TV in there!) My comment: "we could have saved a lot of money and done this at home!" Everyone finally got hungry and we headed out to none other than Hard Rock Cafe New York City! The food was as good as it ever is, the ambiance was fantastic! This is a picture of us standing in front of a showcase of the suits that the Beatles wore for something or other... It was pretty neat: they just hired a tour guide that will show you all the memorabilia that they have in their restaurant. She gave us the grand tour, which took almost an hour. We have a picture of us with her, but I figured you didn't want too big of a Travelogue, so stuck with pics of people you actually know (I think!)
These next two pictures are of the New York Public Library. Yes, we're the Nerd Family that thinks the Library is a tourist attraction extrordinaire! The Lions flanking the steps are kind of a national icon, so we had to get a pic. The little outdoor table and chairs {hey where did that picture go? It WAS here } are located in a park behind the library, and they have magazines and stuff out there that you can sit and read: very cool. (With an attendant so that they don't walk off with the patrons!) I can't figure out how to get this picture upright (or even how to delete it and try to download it in a different direction, but this is a picture of the kids standing in front of one of the billboards for the play that we went to see. It was really good: the story of how the wicked witch in the story of the Wizard of Oz came to be. Anyway that's the short version of our New York Trip, but I'll just say, I was VERY IMPRESSED with New York Drivers. Yes, they do tend to trail the lights, and lane markers seem to be taken as just a suggestion, but I couldn't get over how polite they actually were to each other. They actually would yield to drivers needing to change lanes, and boy do they know how to squeeze into tiny spots!

Well, we're going to try this again--posting,that is. My computer won the last argument! Meanwhile, we've been busy: Kim Gordon (Sandy and Don Ehrhardt's daughter had her baby girl last Tuesday (5th) I got the message just as we were heading out for our new york trip. I've been knitting furiously to try and get her sweater done...(well, in between everything else I've been doing!). The top picture is the sweater, the bottom picture is Kim and her family (Dave is holding the baby!) Somewhere I have a wonderful picture of don with the baby, but I have to figure out what it's called so that I can find it again! I'll post more on New York when I can figure out where in the world we put the cable for the camera so that I can download those pictures! If only I had a good fairy that would put stuff away whenever it gets dropped somewhere!!

Soups and stuff

Terrie, I finally got around to making your smoky cheddar broccoli soup this week. It was a hit! We loved it. Good thing I've got some leftovers as we are supposed to be getting to 98 on Tuesday. I don't like cooking when it is that hot.

Debby, we just had your tomato soup today. That is awesome. Paul doesn't like tomato soup, or so he thought. We had grilled cheese sandwiches and your cold tomato soup, yummy, good. This is a great way to use garden fresh tomatoes. Sure wish I had one of Grandpa's dehydraters.

Dad, would you be interested in making me a dehydrater from Grandpa's old plans? I'd really like to have one for next year. I want to make my own dehydrated tomatoes and other stuff. I have no idea what it would cost for the materials, but let me know if you would be interested.

Love you all,
Dianne
